Starting an online business is an exciting decision. Building websites, creating content, and making money while you sleep attract new marketers daily and in large numbers. However, getting to that point of automated income is not as easy as it sounds. As a matter of fact, if you think you can just do enough to make it happen… Think again!

The Learning Curve – Don’t Get Lost In The Details

I don’t want to discourage you, but there is a huge learning curve in the online marketing world. That doesn’t mean you can’t reach your goals… It means you have to focus on a few things at a time if you want to see fast results.

This isn’t to say that it’s a get rich quick scenario if you don’t get overwhelmed. The point is that if you find yourself distracted by all the different methodologies and strategies for making money online, you will slow your progress down tremendously.

What does all this mean? Quite simply this means you should try to find a business model that suits you and start learning and acting on that before going into others. For example, if you want to be a blogger, then learn how to set up a blog, choose a niche, learn how to generate profit and get started pumping out content.

No need to learn about eCommerce, product creation, video marketing and on and on…

The Action Phase – Action Takers Get Results

I’m not sure if I picked this up from someone else or just figured it out on my own, but this is my go to phrase… “Action Takers Get Results”!

Years ago I was listening to a successful entrepreneur, actually I was going through a course I purchased from him and he said something that sounded strange. He said that he only spent one hour maximum for learning each day and after that he worked hard trying to profit in his business.

This sounded strange to me because I was trying to do it all, so I was spending most of my time learning and very little time taking action. The results were that I wasn’t making any money… and rightfully so.

How can you make money if you aren’t doing revenue generating tasks?

So, the action phase is extremely important, even if you don’t really know that much. It’s better to do a bad job while you’re learning than to spend a long time learning and never take action. Practice makes perfect… not learning. So, take action as quickly as possible.

The best way to do this may be to spend a few bucks on an online marketing course that will show you step-by-step how to make money online. Truthfully, that’s probably the best way to get started.

Challenge Junkies Are Good for Business – Bad for Results

Challenges are an excellent way to learn marketing concepts fast. There are a lot of benefits in joining challenges that help you to reach a specific goal at a specific time.

For instance, you might do a 30-day blog challenge if you are a blogger to start a new blog and write a new blog post each day. Video marketers could do a 100-day challenge to record YouTube videos and upload to their channel… and so on.

These challenges are good for people who are self motivated in the long run. It’s harmful for your business when your motivation goes up and down. Start the challenge, go to the end and then do nothing after. What’s worse is to hop from challenge to challenge without ever doing anything for your own business.

How to Do More To Benefit Your Business

Marketers depend heavily on what is known as the 80 -20 rule. This rule basically means that 20 percent of people make up for 80 percent of the results. So, 20 percent of people who start an online business will eventually produce 80 percent of the results and the rest will fall off.

I don’t want to get too deep into that, but what I am saying is that if you want to join the 20% club, then you should do more. If you are a blogger for example… Most bloggers who teach the trade will tell you to write one article everyday. So, this means that starting out… you should focus on publishing 2-3 articles each day.

If you can do more for your business in the beginning, you will find it easy later on at the point where that 80 percent usually quit. And you won’t feel the need to stop for one or two reasons.

The first reason is that you won’t find it difficult because you got the hard part out of the way early. The second reason is because being that you made yourself an action taker… you will probably be making some revenue to encourage you to keep going…
