Undoubtedly, thousands of people decided that they would become affiliate marketers this year. Unfortunately, most of them probably didn’t find much success.

The amazing thing is that their failure had little to do with the actual affiliate marketing process… there are usually other factors that cause people to fail as online marketers.

Learning the correct strategies and taking action are two sure-fire tactics to succeed in online marketing. Below are 5 reasons why most people usually fail.

Not Getting Started – Your Fear Is Killing Your Possibilities

Many people love the idea of having their own online business and making a lot of money to go with it.

The freedom that comes with being an entrepreneur is awesome even if you aren’t super rich, but it comes at a cost.

The first part of becoming an entrepreneur is getting started. It isn’t enough to verbally say that you want to do it… you have to actually do it.

I don’t know why so many people procrastinate on getting started. It is clear that their procrastination is a little more than what it seems… it’s actually fear.

In my opinion, new marketers are afraid to put themselves in front of the masses. They think that the whole world will be critiquing their every move.

Well… I’ve got some good news and some bad news.

The bad news is that when you’re first getting started, the chances are that not that many people will even see your content, meaning you don’t have an audience to worry about.

The good news is that by the time people notice you enough to critique you… you will probably be making money anyway, so you should enjoy the fact that you are being noticed.

The best thing to do is to get started as soon as possible. Your efforts will get better with experience and by the time “the world” notices you… you will already be an expert in your niche (and most likely you will be seeing some profits in your business).

Learning Too Much Is Not Always A Good Thing

Being an affiliate marketer usually means you have to learn a lot about internet marketing from the beginning of your online journey.

Learning is a good thing when you don’t get stuck in a stage of continuous learning. Don’t get me wrong… you should always be learning new strategies and techniques to help your business.

The problem comes around when you find yourself always learning and never taking action.

A lot of new marketers do this…

If you want to get results as an online marketer… then you have to do some online marketing to begin with.

Action takers get results and learners just become life long learners.

The difference is that one group eventually makes money and “lives the dream” while the other is always busy and never sees any real results.

Try the 80 -20 rule in this situation. 20% learning and 80% action… you should start seeing different results if you fall into this category.

More Is Not Always Better

Starting out as an online entrepreneur requires doing a few things really well. That is usually the best way to get results fast.

Trying to do too many things at once makes it so that you can’t put any concentrated efforts on any one aspect of your business.

There are things you should be doing and others that you can implement later, when the profits start coming in.

Writing a blog, doing a podcast, affiliate marketing, product creation, video marketing, social media marketing…. And you’re marketing to 3 different niches.

In this case… it’s too much for one person to do.

Choose a niche, build a site, and monetize your content. That’s what beginners should be focused on.

Affiliate marketers, or digital marketers in general, use virtual assistants or hire staff to monitor their businesses when they start to do too many things.

As a beginner, stick to what is easy for one person to do. When the profits come, then you can delegate work to others to increase your profits.

Not Spending money – There’s No Return In Being Cheap

Online entrepreneurs learn early on that they have to spend two things to make money online – time and money.

Most people are so attracted to the idea of “Making Money” until they forget that they actually have to spend money, too.

When starting out as a new affiliate marketer, most people don’t know how to do affiliate marketing properly.

In this case, the best thing to do is what most successful online marketers did in the beginning… they got training.

Finding a mentor, if you can afford it, or purchasing an online training course that will teach you how to become an Affiliate Marketer is the best thing to do as a beginner who doesn’t understand the business.

Trying to piece together bits of information from blogs and YouTube is not the fastest way to get your business going and probably not the best way for a total beginner.

If you have the funds and you are too cheap to spend on your business… it will take you a long time, if ever, to become a successful online marketer.

The moral of this story is that if you want an online business, then you should be prepared to spend money. In business, even “FREE” costs something.

Not Taking Advice – Learn From Others In Your Field

New marketers should learn early on that pride has no place in business… especially for the newbie.

Take advice from people who know more than you. Trying to do everything on your own, with your new and innovative methods is not the way to go.

If you knew everything you needed to know, you wouldn’t find yourself always searching for more info, or even worse, stuck in the same place for long periods of time.

Communicate with other marketers in your field and try to learn the right techniques to get your business off and running.

In Conclusion

All forms of internet marketing require learning and implementation. One doesn’t work without the other.

Take your new business choice seriously… Stop procrastinating and get started, learn what is necessary, take action as soon as possible, don’t try to do everything at once, spend time and money on your business, and take advice from people who know more than you.

Doing all these things is a step in the right direction… and it is a way for you to start passing business milestones quickly.

If you are serious about becoming a successful affiliate marketer… here’s an excellent way to get all the information you need to get going.

  1. “Try the 80 -20 rule in this situation. 20% learning and 80% action… you should start seeing different results if you fall into this category.” — This was the biggest takeaway for me.

I always find myself stuck in this never ending mess of learning, telling myself I’ll act, and then finding every reason in the book to not act yet because “something” isn’t right. It’s dumb, but if I could just implement this rule, I’m sure I’ll get over my own BS in no time.

    Thanks for this, kind sir!

    • Hi Hedaya,

They say perfection is the enemy of progress. The funny thing is that very seldom are we ever perfect when just starting out. The 80 – 20 rule is a great way to force yourself to get started.

The best thing to do is get busy producing and tweak your system as you go. It’s basically learning as you go. And most of the time we tend to be our own worst critics. People in your niche will be happy to receive the value you have to offer. So just get started and get your feet wet. Get rid of those fears and anxiety, so you can see some success in your business.

      Thanks for the comment,
      Wadud
